Personal Crisis!

Many of you know Micro, our nearly 2 yr old (Oct 2/07) mini dachshund. I'm at my wit's end with this critter. I love him to death, he is one of my kids -- no doubt, BUT he won't stop pooping in the house.

I've tried everything I can think of but he refuses to go out, or to ask to go out! Never in my life (and i'm a dog person) have I come across a dog who will make the decision to poop in the house, then go put himself in his crate! He even does it when it's nice out.

Being so short to the ground you could almost understand it in crummy weather, but he makes a conscious choice to do it in the house. Generally he's okay with the wee wee, but poo -- he'll do that anywhere (indoors preferably), my house, someone else's house, my vehicles .....

I'm at wits end and we are SERIOUSLY thinking about giving him away. I can't deal with the germs and stuff that come with daily poops in the house. We aren't talking about an accident, this is deliberate.

He has no problem pulling his water dish over to the water cooler, or his food dish to the cupboard .. but ask to go out? NEVER!

I've tried everything recommended to me by friends and family, short of getting another dog, but we are a one dog house so that's not going to happen (besides, we end up with one more pooping in here, lol -- as my father says, it would say "oh, i thought we were supposed to go outside, but heck, this is much better!")

Anybody got any suggestions? My next thing is to put a doggy diaper on him and only take it off when I let him outside.

OH Stace! I am feeling for both y'all and Micro. Something is up. I TOTALLY understand your position as I'd be feeling the same way, not to mention the fact that I am older and the constant cleanup would be MORE than I could handle at this point.

I do not remember the name of it (I'll ask Robert and see if he can recollect), but there is a KEWL show on our Direct television where people write in with behavior difficulties in their doggies and this one gentleman has made an AWESOME career out of getting dogs past their fears and working with their environment. I was VERY impressed.

Have you tried GOOGLING? It just sounds like DARLING Micro has an aversion to doing his "duty" outside for whatever reason.

Well sweetie, I surely hope that there is a quick resolve for all parties soon! I am sure that you are POOPED (no pun intended ... hmmm ... perhaps it is!)with all the cleanup in the midst of your ALREADY "busy" schedule!

If I stumble across any worthwhile information, I shall pass it your way.

Have a WONDERFUL day anyhoo!

Hugs,
Linda

P.S. Hey girlfriend, I finally got a blog up and rolling .... http://bonscrapatitdesigns.blogspot.com

The Dog Whisperer I think is who you mean Linda...he has been on Oprah and everywhere! AWESOME dude!!!
I wish I had an answer for you Stace...I know Reggie has his moments too if we let him have full access to the house. We try to keep him in the kitchen by putting his kennel across the doorway so he is confined here with us. Works as he will go to the door and scratch to go out. I would put the doggy door in and see if that helps him, make sure and use some type of oder eliminator to get rid of the smell because once they smell it they will continue to go there. Here in the states you can get it at the pet stores. Perhaps you need to put a collar of some sorts on him and when he poops on the floor zap him with it! He will get the hint I would hope! Wish you luck hon.

HERE YA GO!!!

It's the Dog Whisperer that Linda is talking about...his name is Cesar Millan. Incredible what he has done to change dogs behavior. Google his name on the internet and see if some info comes up. I know he has also written some books, so might want to check on Amazon.com too.He is also the founder of the Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles and stars in a show on National Geographic Channel called Dog Whisperer.
I surly hope that you won't have to give your little guy up and that he finally stops. I couldn't image having to give up my girls.
Best of luck and I will see if I can find any more info to help you out.
Hugs,
Scrappee

Yep, I've seen him on oprah and seen his shows etc. This is definitely acting out, his "timing" proves it over and over. Not sure what we'll do, but he's under close supervision, that's for sure.

Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful and helpful advice, love ya!
